“Charlie Brown” comes to Huntington College theatre

HUNTINGTON, IN NOVEMBER 26, 1996 --- Huntington College Theatre will present "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" December 6-15 in the Studio Theatre of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. All seats are $5.

Times for the show's seven performances are: Friday, December 6 at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, December 8 at 6 p.m., Thursday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 15 at 6 p.m..

The musical, written by Clark Gesner, is "a kind of living comic strip. It takes us through some of the episodes of Charlie's life, pretty much loosely strewn together," offered Dr. Donald Rainbow, director and professor of theatre and speech at Huntington College. Rainbow updated the musical to fit the holiday season by adding several musical numbers from the popular television Christmas classic, "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

While the original version of the musical included only six characters, Rainbow expanded the script adding six more, bringing both veteran student actors and newcomers to the Merillat Centre stage. Performers include:

• Josh Good, a junior youth ministries major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, will play the part of Charlie Brown. This is Good's first major role in an Huntington College theatrical production.
• Shaana Averill, a senior philosophy and theatre double major from Adrian, Michigan, will play the role of Lucy. Averill is a veteran of the Huntington College stage. She recently appeared in Godspell and The Importance of Being Earnest.
• Matt Webb, a junior theatre major from Huntington, Indiana, will play the part of Snoopy. Webb has appeared in many Huntington College productions, including the male lead in the 400th anniversary performance of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
• Ryan Fuqua, a sophomore English major from Fort Worth, Texas, will play the part of Linus. This is Fuqua's first major role in a Huntington College production.
• David O' Roark, a junior theatre major from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, will play the role of Schroeder. O'Roark has been featured in the Huntington College productions of The Importance of Being Earnest, The Rainmaker, and Godspell.
• Kelly Colwell, a sophomore psychology major from Kingston, Michigan will play the role of Patty. Colwell toured with Doc Rainbow's Colorful All-Star Revue this past summer.
• Amy Newman, a freshman elementary education major from Kokomo, Indiana, will play the part of Frieda. This is Newman's first Huntington College theatrical production.
• Shannon Colwin, a freshman youth ministries major from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, will play the role of Pig Pen. This is Colwin's debut on the Huntington College stage.
• Kate Mueller, a sophomore theatre major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, will play the part of Violet. She recently portrayed Clairee in the Huntington College production of Steel Magnolias.
• * Minda DeYoung, a sophomore from Carson City, Michigan, will play the role of Sally. This is DeYoung's first stage production at Huntington College.
• Derek Smith, a junior elementary education major from Columbus, Ohio, will play the part of Franklin. This is Smith's debut on the Huntington College stage.
• Danny Miller, a freshman exercise science major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, will play the role of Sherman. This is Miller's first role in a Huntington College production.
