Christianity and Science-Fiction to be topic at next Forester Lecture

Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Todd Martin, assistant professor of English at Huntington College, will present the next Forester Lecture on Thursday, February 12, 2004. His lecture, Christianity and the Science-Fiction World View, will take place in the Merillat Centre for the Arts Zurcher Auditorium at 7 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is free. Answering William Romanowski's call to take entertainment more seriously so in recognition of its relation to faith, Dr. Martin will explore how three works of classic science-fiction incorporates Christian imagery. Through such practical application, he will demonstrate the pitfalls of finding only superficial congruities or incongruities with Christianity in a given work. He will argue the need for a deeper understanding of the basic assumptions upon which the respective worldview of a work of science-fiction is based.
This will serve as one of two Forester Lectures scheduled during the spring semester. The next lecture will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004, when Roberta Combs, President of the Christian Coalition of America, and Jim Wallis, Executive Director of Sojourners, will debate over what's at stake in the 2004 elections.
