Church music major to perform senior recital

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University senior Toni Thomas will perform her senior recital at 7:30 p.m. on March 9 in the Longaker Recital of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Thomas, from Markle, Ind., is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with a concentration in church music. While at the university, she has been involved in several musical ensembles, including women's chorale, Preeminence, concert choir, pep band and the handbell choir. In the spring of 2006, she was selected to be in the Longaker Honors Recital and was recently chosen for this year's concert as well. For the past two years, she has been a member of Alpha Chi, the national college honor society.

Thomas has studied voice with Dr. John Thompson, assistant professor of applied voice and opera workshop, and currently studies with Joni Killian, adjunct professor of applied voice.

The theme of the recital is "Songs of the Night," with each piece highlighting this idea in some way. It will feature both vocal and handbell music by such composers as Schumann, Beethoven, Faure and John Jacob Niles.
