Classic ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ to dance onto HU’s stage
FOR RELEASE: Thursday, October 30, 2014HUNTINGTON, Ind. The Huntington University Theatre Company is bringing the classic MGM film "Singin' in the Rain" alive on stage this fall.
"Singin' in the Rain" will debut in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University on Nov. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with special 2 p.m. matinee performances Nov. 15 and 22.
Packed full of charm, romance and comedy, this classic story will delight audiences of all ages despite any weather. Follow Don Lockwood (senior Grant Fitzgerald), Kathy Selden (junior Haley Glinz) and zany sidekick, Cosmo Brown (junior Trenidy Cox), as they turn 1920s Tinseltown upside-down during the emerging era of the "talkies."
Audiences will leave the theater singing popular songs such as "Make 'Em Laugh," "Good Morning" and the unforgettable title song, "Singin' in the Rain."
Written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, the musical is being directed by Jay Duffer, associate professor of theatre arts. Joni Killian, adjunct faculty for the Music Department, is providing the musical direction, and Melissa Duffer, adjunct faculty for the Theatre Department, is serving as the choreographer for the production.
"I am thrilled that HU can bring such a classic musical to our community," Duffer said. Both young and old alike will enjoy this production. This is a great way to introduce younger generations to the MGM classics of the 1950s."
For tickets, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261 from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, $6 for children 13 and younger, $5 for HU students and $9 for HU faculty/staff. Tickets also will be sold at the door before every performance.
