College announces Professor of the Year and Staff Member of the Year

Huntington, Ind. " The Huntington College student body has selected Dr. Paul Fetters as Professor of the Year 1999-2000. In addition, Mr. Ron Coffey has been named Staff Member of the Year 1999-2000. The Professor of the Year is chosen by the student body of Huntington College. Nominees exhibit characteristics of a strong spiritual role model, are involved in campus activities, are highly visible on campus, and are seen by students as an "approachable and challenging professor."
Dr. Paul Fetters, professor of practical theology, earned a B.A. and B.D. from Huntington College, M.Div. from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, M.S. in Education (Guidance and Counseling) from St. Francis College, and D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary. He served as dean of Huntington College's Graduate School of Christian Ministries from 1972 to 1997, and currently teaches full-time in the undergraduate Department of Bible and Religion. He is the author of numerous books and scholarly publications, including Regaining Our Integrity published in the Journal of the American Academy of Ministry (Winter 1994). He served as editor of Trials and Triumphs, a 462-page history of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, and Theological Perspectives, a comprehensive theology of that denomination.
The Staff Member of the Year is nominated by faculty and staff balloting and selected by the College's senior leadership team. The annual award recognizes outstanding service to the campus community.
Ron Coffey, associate dean of student development, holds a bachelor's degree from Huntington College and a master's degree from Ball State University, and is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Indiana State University. Coffey has served on the staff of Huntington College since 1986. He has had a leadership role in many planning committees and task forces, including the team the planned the construction of Meadows Hall and Miller Hall, the College's new student residence facilities. Coffey serves on the advisory board of the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service and the advisory board of the Community Arts Program at the Merillat Centre. He is the staff advisor for The Huntingtonian, the campus newspaper, and The Mnemosyne, the yearbook. He coached the varsity golf team for four years. He was instrumental in creating the Student Activities Board. In addition, Coffey is active in a number of professional associations. Last June, he was elected to the executive committee of the Association for Christians in Student Development. In addition, he has chaired a peer review team for Wheaton College's student activities program.
