Communication Department earns state awards

Huntington, Ind. " Several students in the Department of Communications at Huntington College recently received communication awards from the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) Competition. The competition awarded honors in the television categories of TV Anchor, Sports Anchor, News Package, Other Live, TV News Magazine, TV Spot, and Music Video. Radio entries were awarded in the categories of News Report/Package, Sportscast, Station Imaging, Spot Production, Copy Writing, Newscast, Air Personality, and Play-by-Play. Entries were received from several colleges and universities across the state, including private and public institutions.
I'm so proud of our students, said Dr. Lance Clark, assistant professor of communications. They worked hard and this demonstrates their good efforts.
Dave Wynegar, a senior from South Bend, Ind., finished first in the Radio News Report/Package category. Lara Smitley, a freshman from Leo, Ind., took top honors in the TV Sports Anchor category while classmate Sean Giggy, a freshman from Andrews, Ind., finished third in the same category. In the Radio Spot Production category, Chris Metcalf, a junior from Mansfield, Ohio, Jeff Ott, a senior from Batavia, Ill., and Andrew Shumaker, a senior from Elizabethtown, Pa., finished second. In addition, the Huntington College Communication Department earned second place in TV School Newscast.
The Department of Communication at Huntington College offers a solid professional major designed to provide a foundation for careers in media communication and interpersonal communication. Students major in Radio and TV Broadcasting, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Film Studies, Digital Media Arts and Communication Studies.
