Darr finds her fit with youth ministries major

Huntington, Ind.-Lauren Darr, a Huntington University senior from Adrian, Mich., is completing her PRIME experience in Grand Rapids, Iowa.

Darr did not debate much on her choice of location, but decided upon it because it was strongly recommended to her by her PRIME advisor, who she says she greatly respects. She briefly entertained the idea of completing her PRIME in California and Tennessee, but quickly ruled out those options.

Darr took the long road to finding her major. After switching majors three times, she has finally found her best fit with youth ministries, deciding on that major because the Lord confirmed her call into the ministry and grew her heart toward youth, she said.

Working with New Covenant Bible Church, Darr's duties consist of teaching, mentoring, leading in worship, building relationships and attending meetings.

"What I love the most about this internship is the freedom I have to do what I love doing-my job description has been molded to fit the gifts and talents God has given me," Darr said. "I'm so thankful for this opportunity to discover and practice what I am most passionate about in an environment that is characterized by grace."

Although Darr said she does not have much spare time, with the little bit she does have, she enjoys playing her guitar, reading in coffee shops, and spending time with new friends and students.

Mostly her summer was a process of taking what she learned in her ministry classes and putting it into practice.

"I'm learning that God loves me, and because of that, I have this incredible freedom to love everyone around me regardless of who they are and how they respond to me," she said. "We love because he first loved us."
