Division of Natural, Mathematical Sciences to host visit
FOR RELEASE: Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University has seen a dramatic increase in scheduled visits for the current year. With approximately 300 more visits this year compared to last, the Admissions Department encourages prospective students to attend one of several group visit days. On Feb. 23, the Division of Natural and Mathematical Science will host its spring visit day. The department has scheduled a day of events to give prospective students and their parents the opportunity to learn more about the specific program.
The day will be geared to students interested in pursuing a degree in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science or mathematics. Students interested in professions such as medicine, engineering, research or education are encouraged to come.
"Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet with all of the faculty in the math and science departments," said Dr. Ruth Nalliah, associate professor of chemistry. "We feel that meeting with a wide range of professors in related areas of interest will benefit visitors."
In addition to meeting with professors, events for the day will include touring the campus, a roundtable discussion with current students, lunch with faculty, and attending a class. A special tour will be given featuring the new, high-tech Science Hall, which was built in 2002.
"Giving a detailed tour of the science hall is necessary because it is such a large facility," said Nalliah. "Going inside the rooms to talk about equipment and current student research projects will give us the chance to answer questions regarding opportunities within the program."
Admissions counselors will wrap up the day by discussing the admissions process and financial aid with the students and their parents. Information regarding program requirements will also be discussed throughout the day.
