Doughty presents lecture on our virtual lives

HUNTINGTON, IN -- Dr. Del Doughty, assistant professor of English, will present the final address in this year's Forester Lecture Series at Huntington College. Doughty's presentation will begin at 8 p.m. on May 4, 2000, in the main auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The lecture is free and open to the public. Dr. Doughty will address Love in the Time of Simulacra or Is That You Baby, or Just Some Brilliant Disguise? Dr. Doughty explains, Our lives have become movies and our reality has become more virtual than real,' and yet we're still supposed to love our neighbors as ourselves? Heck, who is my neighbor? Who am I?"
Doughty earned his Ph.D. in comparative literature from Penn State in 1995. He has presented his research at professional conferences and has published short fiction, poetry, and essays in various literary journals and magazines. He was among four winners of the Virgil Hutton Haiku Memorial Award Chapbook Contest for 1999-2000, sponsored by Saki Press (Normal, IL). His interests include contemporary poetry, world literature, and creative writing. Dr. Doughty directs the Huntington College student literary magazine, Ictus. Dr. Doughty is also actively involved with a pilot program at Huntington College aimed at integrating teaching technology into the liberal arts curriculum.
Huntington College presents the Forester Lecture Series each semester. The free, public lectures are designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community.
