Eggleton presents mathematical workshops

Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Patrick J. Eggleton , Associate Professor of Mathematics at Huntington College, has recently given various mathematical workshops to a variety of constituents. Mysteries Across the Curriculum, a workshop for teachers, has been given at Huntington North High School and Central Elementary School. Eggleton collaborated with Rick Reed, Assistant Principle at Huntington North High School, to put together a workshop that provided consulting for teacher in-service training, emphasizing problem solving across the curriculum.
Eggleton presented his workshop, Triangles a la Fettuccini, to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Central Regional meeting in Indianapolis on January 24, 2002. The workshop shared two activities related to an article Eggleton had previously published in the Mathematics Teacher Journal in 2000.
On February 19, Eggleton will present a workshop on math manipulatives for the teachers of third through sixth grade students at Central Elementary School. On March 13, he will present a workshop for the Little Turtle Reading Council focusing on children's literature and mathematics.
Eggleton joined the faculty of Huntington College in 1999. He completed his BS and MEd degrees at the University of South Florida and his PhD in mathematics education at the University of Georgia. His dissertation was titled, The Evolving Mathematical Philosophy of a Pre-Service Mathematics Teacher. Eggleton taught four years at Berry College in Georgia. He also has five years of public high school teaching experience. Eggleton is an active researcher and writer and has also made numerous professional presentations. His article, Experiencing Radians, was the cover story of the September 1999 issue of Mathematics Teacher magazine. Most recently, the October 2001 issue of that magazine published his article, Triangles a la Fettuccini: A Hands-on Approach to Triangle-Congruence Theorems. Eggleton also coordinates the semi-annual High School Mathematics Competition at Huntington College.
