Eight scholars receive Alpha Chi Sophomore Honor Award

Huntington, Ind. " The Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National Scholarship Honor Society recently presented eight Huntington College students with the 2003 Sophomore Honor Award. A reception was held at the home of Huntington College president G. Blair Dowden to recognize the individuals as the top students in their class. The students recognized included:
Jill Clemets, a business management major from Lynn, Indiana
Brandon Curtis, a business economics major from Plymouth, Indiana
Ryan Darr, a mathematics major from Adrian, Michigan
Keith Elliott, a Bible and Religion major from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
Rebecca Laumbattus, a sociology major from Marissa, Illinois
Jodie Maller, a mathematics education major from Bluffton, Indiana
Sara Rowe, a Bible and Religion major from Greenfield, Ohio
Rachel Tinon, an English major from Pataskala, Ohio
Alpha Chi is a national honor society for undergraduate juniors and seniors in all academic disciplines. In 1997, it celebrated 75 years of activity at its Philadelphia national convention. Its objectives are the stimulation, development and recognition of scholarship and those elements of scholarship that make scholarship effective for good.
The Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society was established in 1967. At the 2002 Alpha Chi Regional Convention, the Indiana Beta Chapter was recognized for winning the 2001 National Alpha Chi President's Cup as the Outstanding Chapter of Alpha Chi and the chapter recently received a seventh-consecutive Star Chapter award, one of less than ten to be named a Star Chapter all seven years the award has been in existence. Dr. Paul Michelson, distinguished professor of history at Huntington College, has been the Indiana Beta Chapter sponsor of Alpha Chi since 1975.
