EXCEL program to celebrate new site in Wabash

Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University EXCEL Program for Adults will celebrate the lease of its new facility in Wabash, Ind., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sept. 5. The ceremony will be held at the new location, 1101 Colerain St, Wabash. The two-classroom space, housed in the L.H. Carpenter Center, is leased from Wabash City Schools. Robert E. Vanlandingham, Wabash City mayor and Huntington University alumnus; Celia Briggs, Wabash City Schools superintendent; Kimberly Pinkerton, president of the Wabash County Chamber of Commerce; Dr. G. Blair Dowden, Huntington University president; Dr. Norris Friesen, vice president and dean of the university, and Dr. Steven Holtrop, associate dean for graduate and adult studies, will be on hand for the ceremony.
The Huntington University EXCEL program, which offers classes and degrees geared specifically toward working adults, also serves students in Huntington and Columbia City.
"The university sees Wabash as a community that was underserved by the opportunity for adults to earn a bachelor's degree in Wabash," said Perry Collins, associate director of the EXCEL program. "Our market research substantiated that thought process. The community has welcomed us, and we are very pleased with the size of the first group of students. We see a great future to grow the EXCEL program in Wabash."
Eleven students have enrolled in a new core group scheduled to begin immediately following the ceremony.
