Huntington, Ind. "The Huntington University EXCEL Program will celebrate its

recent expansion to Columbia City with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Peabody Library in Columbia City, Ind. Columbia City Mayor Jim Fleck will be on hand to cut the ribbon. Fleck will be joined by Norris Friesen, vice president and dean of Huntington University, Patricia Hatcher, executive director of the Columbia City Area Chamber of Commerce, and Janet Scank, director of Peabody Library.

The Huntington University EXCEL program, which offers classes and degrees geared specifically toward working adults, previously served students in only the Fort Wayne and Huntington areas. Tuesday evening will be the first night for EXCEL classes in Columbia City.

Huntington University is happy to be a part of the Columbia City community, Perry Collins, Director of the EXCEL Program, said. We recognized early on that the community is growing and has a need for adults to be able to complete a four-year degree while maintaining their employment. That opportunity is now here in Columbia City. We have been very impressed with the quality of those wanting to become students and the friendliness of the community.

Fourteen students are enrolled in the first Columbia City EXCEL class, Organizational Behavior taught by Jan Boggs. The EXCEL program offers both the associate's and bachelor's degree in organizational management. It also offers the Gateway Program through which adults can take continuing education classes for personal enrichment or toward the completion of a college degree.
