Forester Lecture Series highlights baseball ministry

Huntington, Ind. "First up to the plate for this year's Huntington University Forester Lecture Series will be Tom Roy, the founder and executive director of Unlimited Potential, Inc., a worldwide baseball ministry. Roy will present Serving Christ through Baseball on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m., in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Roy has been invited as part of the 2005-2006 Forester Lecture Series' focus on new academic programs. His presentation will help highlight HU's new program in Recreation and Sports Ministry.

Founded in 1980, Unlimited Potential Inc. (UPI) ministers through baseball clinics in U.S. cities and overseas. In the U.S., UPI holds clinics in major league cities when local professional teams are scheduled at home. Christian players from both the home team and visiting team help lead instruction in baseball fundamentals and share testimonies of their faith. Local churches also help provide support and organization of the clinics. Since going international in 1982, UPI has also reached over 40 countries with its ministry.

Roy returns to Huntington after serving as a HU pitching coach in the late 1970s and late 1980s. He also served as Assistant Director of Admissions at Huntington from 1976-1979. A native of Winona, Ind., Roy holds a degree from the Career Academy of Broadcasting, a B.S. degree from Grace College, and an honorary doctorate in Theology from the Baptist College of Hawaii. In addition to serving as Executive Director at UPI, Roy is currently an Associate International Scout with the San Diego Padres.
