Forester Lecture to address Science and Religious Exploration

Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Warren Rogers, Professor and Chair of the Physics Department at Westmont College in California, will give a presentation on Life Elsewhere in the Universe: A Scientific and Religious Exploration. Dr. Rogers has earned grants for his knowledge and research in the field of nuclear physics from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. The lecture will be held December 2, 2003, at 7 p.m., in the Huntington College Habecker Dining Commons banquet area. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is free. Dr. Rogers will respond to issues in the film Contact , which will be shown campus-wide prior to the Forester Lecture. The film Contact is based on the Carl Sagon's novel of the same title and explores the intersection between faith and discovery. Dr. Rogers' presentation will engage issues related to deep space exploration and the search for life beyond the earth. He will engage the viewers' minds to the question, Does the potential discovery of life beyond earth pose any problems for the Christian worldview?
This will serve as the last fall forester lecture of the year 2003. The next lecture will take place on February 12, 2004, when Dr. Todd Martin, Assistant Professor of English at Huntington College, will speak on, Christianity and the Science-Fiction World View.
