Formal Recital to showcase outstanding college musicians

HUNTINGTON, IN NOVEMBER 21, 1996 --- The Huntington College Department of Music will present its Fall Formal Recital on Tuesday, December 3, 1996. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the campus of Huntington College. The recital, which showcases some of Huntington College's finest musical talents, is free and open to the public.

Students must undergo rigorous auditions to be selected for the Formal Recital. Those who have been chosen to perform this year include:

• Monica Kohl, a mezzo soprano from Edon, Ohio. She will sing "O del mio dolce ardor" by Christoph Willibald von Gluck, accompanied by pianist Sandra Birdsall.
• Jennifer Wilding, a soprano from Crestwood, Kentucky. She will sing "Per la gloria d'adorarvi" from Giovanni Battista Bononici's Griselda, accompanied by pianist Jean Flint.
• Nate Bordeaux, a baritone from Huntington, Indiana. He will sing "Amarilli" by Giulio Caccini, accompanied by pianist Sandra Birdsall.
• Mike Thompson, a tenor from Huntington, Indiana. He will sing "Gia il sole dal Gange" by Alessandro Scarlatti, accompanied by pianist Sandra Birdsall.
• Marvin McNew, a tenor from Huntington, Indiana. He will sing "Malvina" by Gaetano Donizetti, accompanied by pianist Jean Flint.
• Rachel Westgard, an alto from Bismarck, North Dakota. She will sing "Il mio bel foco" by Benedetto Marcello, accompanied by pianist Bonnie Stephan.
• Rebekah Armstrong, a soprano from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. She will sing "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" from Georges Bizet's Carman Act I, accompanied by pianist Jean Flint.
• Jennifer Barnes, a soprano from Huntington, Indiana. She will sing "When I have sung my songs" by Ernest Charles, accompanied by pianist Jean Flint. - Freedom Pattengale of Greentown, Indiana, who will perform Claude Debussy's Syrinx on the flute.
• Lindsay Motta, a pianist from Rochester, Massachusetts, who will present Robert Schumann's Papillons, Opus 2.
