Fort Wayne artists featured at Wilson Gallery

HUNTINGTON, IN NOVEMBER 18, 1996 --- Fort Wayne artists John Hrehov and Nathan Taves, will be featured at Huntington College during the next two months. The show will be hosted by the College's Robert E. Wilson Art Gallery. The artists will open the event with a reception on Friday, November 15, 1996 from 6-8 p.m. at the Wilson Gallery located in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.

John Hrehov, a distinguished painter and an assistant professor at Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, will be exhibiting several of his oil paintings. "I am primarily interested in the symbolic content of images. The placement of color, space, and form are all manipulated to create strong formal images which express allegorical themes," offered Hrehov when asked about his work. "Themes of life, death, animate, inanimate, God, and faith in Jesus Christ reverberate through my work."

Nathan Taves, a clay sculptor, will be sharing some of his wall sculptures that were produced this year in completion of his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Taves describes his clay sculptures as "something raw with more guts. I'm often inspired by the forms of our internal organs. They are ugly and disgusting and at the same time beautiful. I create analogues to them suggesting frailty, tenderness, suffering, and humor."

Hrehov and Taves will have their work featured until January 19. For further information contact the Merillat Centre for the Arts at (260) 356-6000, ext.2060.
