Fort Wayne Philharmonic to present Holiday Pops concert

Huntington, Ind. " The Fort Wayne Philharmonic, conducted by Bradley Thachuk, will perform a Holiday Pops Concert on Sunday, December 14, 2003, in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at 2:30 p.m. Huntington College is presenting the concert for the enjoyment of all families in the area.

The program will consist of favorite classical and popular Christmas and holiday music and a time for singing along with the orchestra.

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic, a full time professional orchestra with a nine-month season, is heralded as one of the most exciting and outstanding orchestras in the Midwest. In its 60th season, which is comprised of five subscription series " Masterworks, Chamber, Pops, Freimann Ensembles, Unplugged " and a short summer series, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic performs approximately 80-90 concerts per year. In 1996, the Philharmonic established an innovative program called Philharmonic Unplugged, and it still remains a popular concert series. The educational touring program includes six full orchestra performances, as well as hundreds of performances in the regional schools by the nine chamber ensembles.

The orchestra performs approximately 30 regional concerts, consisting of a variety of programs " Pops, Masterworks, Chamber, educational and Freimann Ensembles.

Since 1980, the orchestra has won five awards for adventuresome programming from ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic recorded its first compact disc in 1999.

Bradley Thachuk recently joined the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as assistant conductor, having come from the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, Ontario, Canada. Prior to that he was associate conductor of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and conductor of the opera program at Miami of Ohio University. He has been conducting assistant for the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras in 2000-2001, having won the prestigious David Effron Conducting Fellowship at the Chatauqua Festival in Chatauqua, N.Y.

Born in Toronto, he began his musical studies in guitar, French horn and piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Thachuk has conducted orchestras in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, the United States and Canada. From 1995-98 he was Music Director for the Brampton Symphony Orchestra in Ontario.

Tickets are available from the MCA Box Office for a cost of $15, $13, or $11 depending on the seating section. Seniors will receive a $2 discount off their seats. Huntington College students may attend for $4.
