FOR RELEASE: Wednesday, April 11, 2007
Huntington, Ind.-Huntington County Leadership, the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce and Huntington University's Department of History will host a forum featuring mayoral candidates at 6:30 p.m. on May 1 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the university's campus. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Republicans Mayor Terry Abbett, City Councilman Randy Hoover, and County Commissioner and Huntington Police Officer Steve Updike, along with Democrats James L. Long and Jerel "Jay" Rinehart, will answer questions about issues affecting the city of Huntington.
"The forum will give the citizens of Huntington the chance to hear from the candidates firsthand about issues directly concerning them," said Mathew Roth, president of the Huntington County Leadership Board of Directors. "The event also will help voters make an informed choice on Election Day."
Nicole Pence of Indiana's NewsCenter will moderate the forum. Pence graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., with a double major in communication arts and sciences and Spanish as well as a minor in political science.
The public is invited to submit questions for the forum by April 24 to HuntingtonMayoralForum@yahoo.com or in writing to the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce at 305 Warren St. All questions will be considered for use in the forum; however, submission does not guarantee a question will be used.
