Foundation Dinner to welcome Rep. Pence as speaker

Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University Foundation will welcome U.S. Congressman Mike Pence as the speaker at the annual Huntington University Foundation Dinner. The event is set for Oct. 23 with a 6 p.m. reception and 6:30 p.m. dinner where Rep. Pence will speak on "Faith & Government." The dinner will be upstairs in the Habecker Dining Commons. The cost of the Foundation Dinner program is $25 per person. Tables of eight may be reserved for $160. To make reservations, contact Ella Burnett at (260) 359-4069. Rep. Pence has been active in Congress, serving on three different congressional committees, since he was elected in 2000 by the 6th district of Indiana. As part of the International Relations Committee, Rep. Pence has traveled to visit troops in Iraq for four consecutive years. He participated in drafting the Patriot Act and the legislation creating the Department of Homeland Security while serving on the crime terrorism and Homeland security sub-committee of the judiciary committee. When Rep. Pence was on the Agricultural Committee, he worked with Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar to advance the notion of Freedom to Farm. He is also the author of the Farm Flexibility act and helped draft the 2002 Farm Bill. In addition, Rep. Pence has worked to create legislation useful to his constituency such as the Truth in Domain Names Act aimed at protecting children from predatory Web sites.
Rep. Pence also has been active in the mass media. "The Mike Pence Show" was syndicated statewide in 1992 and aired weekdays on 18 radio stations. In addition to his radio influence, from 1995-1999, Rep. Pence hosted a Sunday morning political television showed that aired in Indianapolis. His influence continues today as he regularly appears on Fox News, CNN and MSNBC while appearing weekly on Indiana's most prominent talk radio stations. Furthermore, he has recently been profiled by the New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Business Week, and U.S. News and World Report as a conservative leader.
Rep. Pence and his wife Karen, have three children. Of himself, Rep. Pence said, "[I am] a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order."
