Fresh Faces to introduce new theatre talent
FOR RELEASE: Sunday, September 17, 2006
Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University Department of Theatre Arts will introduce new talent with Fresh Faces, an evening of scenes and songs, on Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium. The department will show off their new class of talent through a collection of musical and theatrical pieces. Each piece is performed by an individual or a small group of new theater students who have been mentored through the process by more experienced theater students. The students are assigned scenes by Kristi Shamburger, adjunct professor and director of Fresh Faces.
Kristen Kohaut, a junior theater performance major from Hackettstown, N.J., is a mentor this year. She said that the whole experience is great fun, and her students are doing really well.
"It's refreshing to have actors new to the stage," Kohaut said. "This is an opportunity for freshmen to perform on the main stage, an opportunity that isn't offered very often since we only do two main stage shows a year, so it's pretty exciting for them."
Matthias Austin, a theatre performance major from Wheaton, Ill., echoed the idea of excitement for these new performers.
"I'm excited for Fresh Faces," Austin said. "I look forward to seeing all the talent that we as a freshman class have."
All tickets are general admission for a cost of $2. For further information, contact the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261 or visit www.huntington.edu/mca.
