Gallery season to open with Yee photography exhibit

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University's Robert E. Wilson Gallery will open its 2009-2010 season with an photographic exhibit by Peter Yee from Sept. 10 to Oct. 7.

An artist reception will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.

Yee's works include a variety of subject matter and were captured with his large-format camera and 35mm camera. He is a software engineer who - for the past six years - has primarily photographed images from nature as well as still lifes with his 35-millimeter, 4x5 and 8x10 cameras. However, he has had an interest in the arts and art history for many years. Yee's exploration of light, form and mood are reflected in his photographs. His black-and-white photos are developed at home while the color images are sent to a professional developer.

In addition, Mike Schmid has contributed a wood relief painting to Yee's show. Schmid and Yee have been acquainted for a number of years and have collaborated in their efforts to promote the arts through FAME, the Foundation for Art and Music in Elementary Education.

"Mike's two-dimensional painted woodcut relate well to Peter's focus on the beauty of nature with harmonious forms and colors, creating a contemporary Asian mood," said Susan Yee, director of the Wilson Gallery.

Schmid is an art specialist at Homestead High School and was recently commissioned by the City of Fort Wayne to produce a piece of artwork as a gift to the city of Takaoka, Japan, one of Fort Wayne's sister cities.

The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre for the Arts performances, and by appointment. For further information, contact Gallery Director Susan Yee at (260) 359-4331.
