Hall to give workshop for theatre-effects class

HUNTINGTON, IN - The Huntington College January-Term theatre effects class, The Big Bang " Theatre Style, will have a performer flying effects workshop on Friday, January 17. The workshop will be given by Dr. Delbert Hall of Hall Associates, Johnson City, Tenn. Hall Associates choreographed the flights for last year's HC Theatre performance of Side Show. Delbert L. Hall, Ph.D. has been teaching theatre for 20 years. He received his BS in Theatre Arts from Western Carolina University in 1977, his MFA in Design and Technical Theatre from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1980, and his Ph.D. in Theatre from the University of Florida in 1986. Dr. Hall, president of Hall Associates, Inc. - Flying Effects, began creating flying effects in 1981 with Peter Pan. He has flown performers ranging in weight from 30 lbs. to 350 lbs. His flying effects have ranged in complexity from a simple ascension of one performer in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, to a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream with approximately 200 flying cues and six performers flying simultaneously. Other productions for which Hall has created flying effects include Wizard of Oz, Angels in America, Fiddler on the Roof, The Tempest, Pirates of Penzance, The Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland, Marry Poppins, Christmas and Easter productions, and numerous ballets and musical revues. Hall also created the flying effects for the Backstreet Boys 1999 music video, Larger Than Life. He has published several articles on creating flying effects and is currently working on a book on this subject. Dr. Hall is a Professor at East Tennessee State University, chair of the ESTA task group on flying people, and a founding member of the North American Association of Flying Effects Directors.
