Harding, Stavrou to perform guitar recital

Huntington, Ind.-On Nov. 6, the Huntington University Music Department will present a combined senior recital by guitarists Patrick Harding and Theodore Stavrou at 7:30 p.m. in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Harding is a senior music-business major from Avilla, Ind., and his parents are Ron and Gwen Harding. At Huntington, he has been involved with Joyful Noise, Student Admission Staff, 2007 and 2008 "Godspell" summer tours, as well as a guitarist at The Well. He was a selected for the 2009 Longaker Honors Recital. He also plays the euphonium in Huntington's Wind Ensemble and guitar for the Huntington University Jazz Ensemble. He plans to complete his degree in spring 2010 and begin preparations for graduate school in music. He began studying classical and jazz guitar with Phil Schurger in the fall of 2007 and currently studies with him. Harding will perform guitar pieces such as "Un Dia de Noviembre" by Leo Brouwer, "Sonata L. 238" and "Sonata L. 483" by Scarlatti, and joining him with three movements of "Concerto in D Major" by Vivaldi will be Drew Wutke on harpsichord, Dr. Robert Lynn on cello, and Elizabeth Smith and Christie Thomson on violin.
Stavrou is a senior music-business major from Greencastle, Pa., and his parents are Steve and Evelyn Stavrou. Stavrou has studied guitar for eight years. Before entering Huntington University, Stavrou studied with Mark Miller from Cumberland Valley School of Music, and since being at Huntington University he has studied both classical and jazz with Phil Schurger. Stavrou was selected to perform in the Annual Longaker Honors Recital in 2008 and 2009. While at Huntington University, he was a member of the Jazz Ensemble, Preeminence in the fall of 2006, played guitar for Godspell in 2007 and 2008 summer tours in addition to "Little Shop of Horrors." He also has played the trombone for the HU Wind Ensemble. Stavrou will perform guitar pieces such as "Tsifteteli for Elena" by Boudounis, "Three Movements from Libra Sonatine" by Dyens, and "Sonata No. 2 in A Minor, BWV 1003, II. Fuga" by Bach.
Harding and Stavrou will perform a duet of three movements from "Tango Suite" by Piazzolla.
There is no charge for the recital, and it is open to the public.
