Hawks to speak at Leadership Luncheon

Huntington, Ind.-On July 23, the Huntington University Center for Leadership will sponsor a leadership luncheon open to business and community leaders.

The luncheon will feature Rick Hawks, the founder and 14-year senior pastor of The Chapel, a nondenominational church in Fort Wayne, Ind. Prior to The Chapel, Hawks served in two pastorates, acted as state director of the Indiana Policy Review and was a candidate for U.S. Congress in 1990.

Hawks' presentation is titled "Maximizing your Influence: The Secret Lessons of Leadership from Jesus."

The lecture will focus on the influence Jesus had on the world and why he was such an effective leader. Hawks will discuss the four counter-intuitive, overlooked principles that go against natural instincts but that will maximize influence.

"Jesus was the ultimate leaders," Hawk said. "He never held an elected office, never led an army, never traveled 100 miles from the place of his birth, never did any of the usual things that we associate with greatness, yet he has had a more profound influence in the world than any other solitary life."

The luncheon will be held in the upper level of Habecker Dining Commons from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $20, and it includes lunch. Discounts are available when two or more attend from the same business or organization. To register, call (800) 600-4888. Walk-ins also are accepted.

This event is part of a series of luncheons that offered on the fourth Thursday of every month.

The Huntington University Center for Leadership is housed on the university's campus in the EXCEL Adult Degree Programs office. Under the direction of Dr. Rick Upchurch, director of the EXCEL program, the CFL provides leadership training and resources to businesses, community leaders and pastors in northern Indiana.
