HC EXCEL Program to offer Intro to Watercolor Painting

Huntington, Ind. " Interested in learning to paint with watercolor? Ken Hopper, Huntington College assistant professor of art, will teach Introduction to Watercolor Painting, a spring Gateway course in the Excel Program for Adults at Huntington College. Classes will meet Monday evenings from 6-10:00 p.m., on February 9, 16, 23, and March 1, in Room 280 of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The class will serve as an introduction to watercolor painting using transparent watercolors. Various painting techniques and enhancement of watercolor with permanent ink markers will be introduced as students explore watercolor as an enjoyable form of artistic expression.

A portable watercolor kit with all required supplies will be issued at the first class meeting. The course will require completion of one outside class assignment each week. Previous drawing experience is not required as several alternate methods for getting images on paper to paint will be examined.

William Kenneth Hopper received his Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Studio Arts from Ball State University. He is currently working towards a PhD in Educational Technologies from Purdue University. Before coming to Huntington College in 1990, Hopper taught at Marion College, Purdue University, Ball State University and Indiana Wesleyan University. He is a member of the Mid-America Print Council and the National Art Education Association. His professional experience includes RAM Graphics, Inc., Hopper Design Plus, Today's Computers Business Center and Hopper Digital Arts.
