HC honored for United Way award-winning video

"Superhero" John Mignone and Dr. Lance Clark received a first-place video award from the Indiana Association of United Ways.
Huntington, Ind. "The United Way of Huntington County 2003 Campaign Video produced by Huntington College was recently awarded first place at the Indiana Association of United Ways State Leaders Conference.

The video, Superheroes, was a collaboration of Northeast Indiana United Ways from Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley Counties. Huntington College produced the video as a major in-kind donation. There were six other entries in the Division 6 to 9 category, which covered campaigns raising less than $775,000.

Dr. Lance Clark, assistant professor of communication at Huntington College, and John Mignone, 2003 Huntington County Campaign Chair, oversaw production of the video. Senior Jonathan Bordeaux, a broadcast communication major from Roanoke, Ind., played a key role in the success of the film, helping to shoot and edit video footage.

They (the agencies) do so many good things for kids, for people in need, for our neighbors, said Mignone. Any one of us can be a superhero by helping to support these agencies.

A local volunteer, local agency partner and familiar geographic landmark from each participating county were featured in the video.

The video helped carry the message that we have so many superheroes in our community, said Pat Horoho, executive director of United Way of Huntington County. As an example, only about 15 percent of the United Ways made their goal in 2003, and Huntington County was one of them. This demonstrates the level of caring in our community.
