HC honors Martin Luther King, Jr.

HUNTINGTON, IN " In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., Huntington College will host a commemorative service on January 19, 2004. The service, held at College Park United Brethren Church at 11:15 a.m., will feature Dr. Bernard Stewart, who was present in Washington D.C., on August 28, 1963, when King made his famous I Have a Dream speech. The public is cordially invited to attend. Music will be provided by HC's gospel choir.
During the month of January, HC is offering a two-week January-term course entitled, Get on the Bus! The Civil Rights Movement and Reconciliation. This class will allow students to examine the role of non-violence in the civil rights movement, looking in-depth at the life of King. The class will visit historical civil rights sites in Memphis, Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery and Atlanta, and will meet people who took part in the civil rights movement.
