HC students to attend math conference

Huntington, Ind. "Eleven Huntington College students will attend the Miami University Mathematics and Statistics Conference in Oxford, Ohio from Sept. 28-29. The conference's theme, Statistics in Sports, will reflect on different issues in sporting events.

Invited speakers for the conference include Hal Stern from Iowa State University, Jim Albert from Bowling Green State University, and Scott Berry of Berry Consultants. Different topics scheduled to be addressed include Markov Chain Baseball , To Bunt or Not to Bunt, Using Play-by-Play Baseball Data to Develop a Better Measure of Batting Performance, The Possibility of Winning, How Unbelievable was that Comeback, Bridging Different Eras in Sports, Least Squares Ratings for Sports, and Who is #1?

Huntington College students attending the workshop along with professors Francis Jones and Win Wetherbee are Renee Rupp, Andrew Lawrence and Ryan Ripke from Huntington, Ind.; Nathan Alpaugh from Bryan, Ohio; Heather Banks from Arcanum, Ohio; Lisa Conley from Medaryville, Ind.; Danielle Deline from Adrian, Mich.; Ben Eggleston from Elkhart, Ind.; Shoshannah McKinney from West Harrison, Ind.; Elizabeth Rayle from Auburn, Ind.; and Rachel Rohrs from Van Wert, Ohio.
