History organization moves national office to HC

Dr. Paul Michelson will serve as national secretary for the Conference on Faith and History. Huntington, Ind. " The national office of the Conference on Faith and History (CFH) will be located at Huntington College, effective June 1, 2004. It was previously located at Indiana State and Gordon College, though there was no formal office. Huntington will mark the first place for CFH to reside in a formal office.
The CFH is a national organization established in 1967 to encourage Christian scholars in exploration of the relationship of their faith to historical studies, to provide a forum for the discussion of current scholarship, to foster research in the general area of faith and history, and to enable interaction among academic historians and others interested in this topic. The CFH has been an affiliate organization of the American Historical Association since 1979.
Dr. Paul Michelson, distinguished professor of history at Huntington College, will serve as national secretary of the CFH.
This is a significant recognition and opportunity for Huntington College, Michelson said. It makes the College a leader in and supporter of one of the oldest and most successful of the Christian disciplinary organizations, and puts Huntington on the national map. It will give the College a role in shaping the work of Christian historians at a critical time for the discipline.
The CFH publishes a journal Fides et Historia, now in its 36th volume, and a newsletter. In addition, the CFH hosts a biennial professional meeting and a student-research conference. The journal is published at Calvin College (Mich.) and the newsletter will continue to be published at Huntington College, where it has been since 1996. Dr. Dwight Brautigam, professor of history at Huntington College, will be the CFH national treasurer and administrator. Dr. Jeffrey Webb, assistant professor of history at Huntington College, will be managing editor of the newsletter.
The CFH represents exactly what Huntington College is all about; engaging Christians to think seriously about how their academic pursuits and their faith fit together, Brautigam said. College leaders have shown great vision in supporting this development, and our department's heightened involvement in the CFH should also strengthen recruitment of more students for already fine history programs.

Dr. Brautigam, Dr. Michelson and Dr. Webb have distinguished themselves as history scholars, and it is an honor to have the CFH located on our campus.
