Honorary degrees to be awarded to Webb, Chung, Hull

Huntington, Ind. " Huntington College will award three honorary degrees during the 2004 commencement services on May 15, 2004. The Doctor of Human Letters degree will be awarded to Dr. William J. Webb, Jr., physician and medical missionary, and Dr. KunMo Chung, nuclear engineer and experienced science administrator. A Doctor of Commercial Science degree will be awarded to Mr. Bernard J. Hull, home developer and long-time Huntington College Board of Trustees member. Dr. William J. Webb, Jr., is honored for his passion of combining his extraordinary medical talents and his faith through quality servant leadership. Webb has served with Family Practice Associates in Huntington since 1976. After graduating from Anderson University in 1968, and from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1972, Webb served his residency at Ball Memorial Hospital and at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Webb's professional activities include membership in the Indiana State Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, and the Huntington County Medical Society. Webb has also served as chairman of the Medical Missions Task Force for the Church of God Mission Board, board member for Caring Partners International, Huntington Memorial Hospital Chief of Staff and as president of the Huntington County Medical Society. With his dedication to his profession and commitment to his community, Webb has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, the Governor's Voluntary Action Program Health Care Award, the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Huntington Exchange Club, and the Christian Heritage Award from the Huntington Union Church. Webb's commitment to serve God through short-term medical mission trips to places around the world including Haiti, Ecuador, Kenya, Uganda, Mexico and Indonesia have helped and inspired people of all ages.
Dr. KunMo Chung is a renowned world leader in the advancement of nuclear engineering and science, particularly skilled in the professional areas of energy systems analysis, nuclear power plant engineering, and science and technology policy research. Chung studied at Seoul National University and earned his Ph.D. in physics from Michigan State University, later conducting post-doctoral research at Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). Chung established the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1971, and became Professor of Electrical Science and Provost of KAIST. Chung's professional leadership activities currently include serving as president of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, honorary president of Hoseo University, chairman of Habitat for Humanity Korea, and president of the Jang Young-Sil Memorial Foundation. Along with a strong commitment to his profession, Chung is also highly dedicated to Christian service. He has served as the founder and chairman of the National Reconciliation Prayer Movement, chairman of the Environmental Preservation Committee of the Korean Church Council, chairman of the Korean Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and member of the International Board of Habitat for Humanity, International. Chung is also the honorary president of the Korean Christian Work Mission Council, co-chairman of the Korea Association for Promoting Common Values, past-chairman of the Korean Organ Donor Association, and past-chairman of the International Education Foundation for Physically Handicapped People.
Mr. Bernard J. Hull has lived a life of service to his country, his home state of Michigan, the United Brethren Church of Christ, and Huntington College. A naval veteran, Hull enlisted in the Navy in 1945, serving for three years. During the Korean Conflict, he served two years with the Chief Naval Operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Hull earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business and mathematics in 1947, from Western Michigan University. He then became a Home Builder Contractor and Developer and is still active in that profession today. Hull's commitment to his home state includes serving two terms as the Michigan State President of the Home Builders Association and his continued service as Director of the Grand Rapids Builders Association and Senior Life Director for both the state and national associations. Hull is also dedicated to the service of his church and to Huntington College. Hull is active in his local United Brethren Church, the Michigan Conference and the General Church. For the past 39 years, Hull has served as a key member of the Huntington College Board of Trustees and also as board chairman for six years.
Huntington College will hold its 106th commencement exercises on Saturday, May 15, 2004, beginning at 3 p.m. on the campus front lawn. Dr. KunMo Chung will present the annual 2004 commencement address. The public is cordially invited to attend the ceremony.
