HTV News earns gold at College State Awards

Huntington, Ind.-HTV, a weekly news program written, directed, produced and edited by Huntington University students, earned recognition at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters' 2009 College State Awards. HTV took the gold in the TV Newscast College Category for a show produced as a team in May 2009. Adam Widener, of Whiteland, Ind., was the producer, and Brittany Christian, of Carmel, Ind., was the director. Both were senior broadcasting majors at the time of the broadcast and graduated in May 2009.
HTV is comprised of broadcasting majors and non-broadcasting majors. Each week, students research and create their own stories. Once they are assigned a story, they are responsible for filming, interviewing, editing and writing the stories to create a 20-minute weekly news show.
"I'm so impressed with these student winners," said Dr. Lance Clark, associate professor of communication. "They have all worked so hard on their projects, and this is a great way for them to be honored for their outstanding efforts. Our Communication Department emphasizes competition in the marketplace. It is a testing of students' communication abilities and storytelling skills. It's a great feeling knowing that Huntington University can compete and stand on its own against much larger state colleges and universities."
