HU Foundation honors Dowdens with scholarship gift in their name

HUNTINGTON, Ind. President G. Blair and Mrs. Chris Dowden were recognized today with a gift in their honor to The Dowden Scholarship for Horizon Leaders.

The Huntington University Foundation donated $6,000 in their name to this endowed scholarship, which was created this year to recognize the Dowdens. The scholarship supports the Horizon Scholarship Program.

Dr. and Mrs. Dowden are retiring on May 31 after 22 years of service to the university.

Launched in fall 2008, the Horizon Leadership Program is a partnership between Huntington University and Youth for Christ USA with the goal of creating a more racially and ethnically diverse campus. A cohort of students from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds is selected each year to receive the Horizon Leadership Scholarship. A combination of federal, state and institutional aid, the scholarship covers all fees associated with tuition and housing costs for up to 10 semesters.

To date, $31,000 has been raised for the Dowden scholarship fund.
