HU prof Jay Duffer honored at playwright festival

Huntington, Ind.- Jay Duffer, assistant professor of theatre arts and department chair, will be recognized as the third place winner in the Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival for his play, "Asleep in the Arms of God."

Set in the rural South, "Asleep in the Arms of God" explores relationships between a stoic Baptist preacher, his rebellious agnostic son, and a cynically paranoid grandson. "Humor, tragedy, plot twists, hidden secrets, historical events and deeply complex characters all interweave in a non-linear, episodic story to reveal a family conflicted in the paradoxes of religion and humanity," said Duffer.

The play will be part of the Civic Theatre's Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival, June 4-6, 2010 at the Allen County Public Library Auditorium. The event will include performances, panel discussion, and a workshop. For more information, call 260-422-8641, extension 221.
