HU vocalists take first and third

Huntington, Ind.-Sarah Yanovitch, a sophomore vocal performance major at Huntington University, took first place for the second year in a row, in the sophomore women's division of the Indiana NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition held Oct. 31 at Anderson University. She performed "Ah, non giunge" from Bellini's "La Sonnambula," in the Winner's Recital at the end of a competition that included singers from Indiana University, Indiana State, Depauw, Ball State, as well as several Christian colleges including Indiana Wesleyan and Goshen College. Yanovitch, of Griswold, Conn., is a voice student of Joni Killian, adjunct voice faculty in HU's department of music.

Also placing in the NATS competition was Katie Geders, an elementary and special education major with a theatre minor, who took third place overall in the musical theatre division for college junior and senior men and women. Geders is a senior at Huntington University as well as a Huntington native.

In all, twelve music students participated in the Indiana NATS competition, all students of Prof. Joni Killian. Students were accompanied by Drew Wutke and Melissa Cole.
