HU Women’s Auxiliary to host radio chef for fall breakfast

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Phyllis Dowty, WBCL radio chef, will be the featured speaker for the Fall Women's Breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 22. The event is sponsored by the Huntington University Women's Auxiliary.

Dowty wrote the "Rise and Shine" cookbook which contains the recipes that she has used as chef on the WBCL Morning Show. Once a month since 2003 she has cooked for the WBCL morning DJs. She always makes something that is "different" but fairly easy, using ingredients anyone could find. Examples are Potato Candy, Cheesecake Cream Fruit Dip, Peach Harvest Beef and Turkey Club Pizza.

Her presentation at the breakfast, "In the Kitchen with Phyllis," will focus on some basic nutritional information with tips on reading nutrition labels and suggestions for some substitutions to improve the nutritional quality of some recipes. In addition she will spotlight some tips for making kitchen jobs more efficient and more enjoyable. An added plus is the opportunity to sample her creative delight: Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins.

The buffet breakfast is held at the upper level of Huntington University's Habecker Dining Commons. It will include music by the Jacob Smith, a tenor music major. The public is welcome. Reservations should be made by Sept. 19. RSVP to Pat Jones at 260-359-4061; Barbara Fetters at 260-672-8333 or bfetters@juno.com; or Ruth Weber at 260-356-0255. The $7 fee is paid upon arrival. New women faculty, staff and spouses of new faculty and staff, will be guests of the Auxiliary.

The Huntington University Women's Auxiliary promotes dormitory comforts for students. This year, the group will be providing counter height stools for Roush and Baker lounges. Women across the nation and Canada contribute through the annual October Benefit Garage Sale on campus, contributory memberships, Homecoming sales and donations from Women's Ministries groups of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ.
