Huntington alum to discuss career in Indiana wildlife

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Jonathan Ferris, a 1994 Huntington University alumnus, will give a presentation on his career in Indiana wildlife. The presentation, titled "Cooperative Extension Service as a Career Choice," will take place at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 in Hiner Hall of the Science Hall at HU. The seminar is part of the Gerald D. Smith Lecture Series in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and is free and open to the public.

After graduating from HU with a bachelor's degree in biology, Ferris earned a master's degree in fisheries and wildlife from Michigan State University. His career with the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service began in 1997, and he currently serves as county extension director and extension educator for the 4-H Youth Development and Agriculture and Natural Resources programs in Fayette County.

While in extension, Ferris has used his fisheries and wildlife background to co-develop a series of wild game processing workshops that he has conducted across the state for many years. These programs have earned him awards at both the state and national levels.

Ferris and his family are also partners in River's Edge Whitetails LLC a whitetail deer farm located in Milton, Ind.
