Huntington announces high school art exhibit winners

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University announced the winners of the third annual High School Art Exhibit at an artists' reception March 8.

The exhibit will run through March 28 in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The show features 47 entries from students grades nine through 12. Participating high schools include the following:

  • Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Pa.

  • Hillsdale High School, Hillsdale, Mich.

  • Homestead High School, Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Hopkins High School, Hopkins, Mich.

  • Huntington North High School, Huntington, Ind.

  • Lakewood Park Christian School, Auburn, Ind.

  • Northrop High School, Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Oak Hill High School, Converse, Ind.

  • Wawasee High School, Syracuse, Ind.

  • "We wanted to provide an opportunity for regional high school students to have a professional quality exhibit to showcase their work," said Rebecca Coffman, professor of art. "It's also a great opportunity to introduce them to Huntington University.Most importantly, we want to celebrate the visual arts being created by high school students in this area."

The exhibition awards were juried by Huntington University Department of Visual Arts faculty including Rebecca Coffman, professor of art; Ken Hopper, associate professor of art; and Barb Michel, visiting instructor in art.Best of show, first place, second place and third place awards along with cash prizes were given.

"There is great variety in the work, and we are excited to have it on exhibit through the end of March," Michel said. "In our evaluations, faculty members were impressed by students' competence of media and originality."
