Huntington celebrates first Grandparents Day

Huntington, Ind. "Diana Granny Jameson enjoys keeping in touch with her granddaughter Megan Crawford, a sophomore broadcasting major at Huntington University. She is a very loving granddaughter, and I can always rely on her, Jameson said. She just touches my heart.
Crawford called her grandmother more than a month-and-a-half ago and asked her to make the four-hour drive from Oakwood, Ill., to attend Huntington University's first ever Grandparents Day, held April 25, 2006. Crawford, a native of Danville, Ill., invited her grandmother because she is a very curious person, and I knew she would like to have a different atmosphere for the day and see what I do here.
In other words, Jameson said, laughing, I'm nosy.
Jameson was one of 112 grandparents to visit students on the campus Tuesday. Grandparents traveled from as far away as Pennsylvania and North Carolina to have lunch in the Habecker Dining Commons, tour the campus, as well as attend class and chapel with their grandchild.
I've been here before, but never to something like this, Jameson said. I think it's good for the family to see where the money is going. I think it's the right size. You're not just a number here.
When Crawford completes her education, she will be the first person in her family to earn a bachelor's degree.
Megan has got to have an education in today's day and age, Jameson said. When you're out there, you've got to have that degree, or you'll be flipping hamburgers.
Jameson said she believes Huntington University is worth the tuition cost and was very supportive of Crawford going to college.
I think she is getting a good education here, Jameson said, and I do think the religious aspect of it is a good cause.
