Huntington College ranked by US News & World Report

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College has been ranked among the top 15 comprehensive colleges in the Midwest by US News and World Report. The magazine's 2002 guide to America's Best Colleges marks the seventh consecutive year that Huntington College has been listed among the best in its class. US News first organizes colleges and universities by category, then ranks schools within each group. Rankings are based on a wide range of criteria, including academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity,
financial resources and alumni giving.
Listed again this year among the best comprehensive colleges in a twelve-state region, Huntington College has consistently fared well in the annual US News & World Report rankings. In addition to this year's report, Huntington achieved distinction in the US News guidebooks published in 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, and 1994.
Huntington College administrators cite the school's academic reputation as a reason for its guidebook rankings and as a significant factor in its recent enrollment growth. Since 1993, the Huntington student body has increased 63%.
Huntington College is currently building a new 91,000-square-foot, $16.5 million science facility.

We have become academically stronger over the last 10 years, said Dr. Ron Webb, vice president and dean of the College. Our faculty members have stronger academic qualifications. More than 80 percent have earned the highest degree possible in their fields. That percentage is the highest rate of faculty achievement among Christian colleges in Indiana and among the highest rates of Christian colleges across the country.
At Huntington, no classes are taught by graduate assistants, Webb added. This means Huntington students can be personally mentored by distinguished faculty scholars with the highest academic qualifications.
Not only is our faculty stronger, but the academic profile of our students has continued to get stronger over the years, Webb noted. In 1991, the average SAT score of incoming freshman was 883. Today, the composite score averages 1052. An increasing number of students graduating in the top 10% of their high school class are choosing a Huntington College education.
It has been a year of accolades for Huntington College. In January, the school was listed among The Best 201 Colleges for the Real World, a publication designed for those who want to get in, get out, and get a job. That guidebook praised Huntington's shorter-than-average time to graduation, opportunities for study abroad, and available programs for working adults.
Our listing in the Real World guidebook demonstrates that students don't have to choose between an 'education for life' and an 'education for a living' said HC spokesman John Paff. At Huntington, students can develop a philosophy of life while also preparing for a meaningful career.
All the US News rankings appeared on the magazine's web site (www.usnews.com) on Thursday, September 6. College-bound students can use the site to search for colleges according to their own interests, fill out interactive worksheets, and search for scholarship and financial aid information. Excerpts from the college rankings will be published in the September 17 issue of the weekly news magazine. The full rankings will be published in the annual America's Best Colleges guidebook, available in libraries and bookstores on September 10.
