Huntington names Chafin its Staff Member of Year

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University held its annual appreciation dinner for faculty and staff on Thursday, May 10. Many campus community members were recognized for their service to the university, while Kris Chafin was honored with the Staff Member of the Year award. Chafin, the university's director of learning assistance, was chosen by faculty and staff members at Huntington University as the Staff Member of the Year. She has served the university for 13 years and before receiving the award, President Dr. G. Blair Dowden recognized her for her dedication to helping students achieve their academic goals, her work with students who have disabilities and her willingness to go the extra mile to see students succeed.
Others recognized at the banquet included Dr. Kevin Miller, associate professor of communication, who was selected as the Professor of the Year by the student body. Members of the campus community who have served for five years received a Huntington University pin. Those individuals included Julie Babb, Nancy Barnes, Ella Burnett, Susie Burson, Debra Burton, Gary Campbell, Dr. Jack Heller, Julie Hendryx, Troy Irick, Dr. Kevin Miller, Steve Pozezanac, Susie Rahn, Justin Spitler and Debra Springer.
Plaques for ten years of service were presented to Dr. Luke Fetters, Dr. Karen Jones, Dave McEowen, Paul Nalliah and Dr. Wayne Priest. An engraved pen and pencil set for 15 years of service was given to Beth Dubois and Dr. Steve Holtrop.
Dr. Bill Bordeaux, Dr. Dwight Brautigam, Jerry Gressley, Barbara Thompson and Sharon Woods were presented with an individualized gift for 20 years of service. For 25 years of service, Randy Neuman and Sylvia Reed were given a desk clock. In addition, Dr. Chaney Bergdall, Denise Brauchla, Rich McConnell and Dr. Win Wetherbee were recognized for 30 years of service with a Huntington University lamp.
Dr. Ray Seilhamer, dean of Christian ministries, was lauded upon his retirement for six years of service to the university. Seilhamer is also an alumnus of Huntington University and served several years in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. He received a personalized Huntington University jacket.
