Huntington to hold 19th Annual Student Art Exhibit

Huntington, Ind.-Sam Smith will serve as guest juror for Huntington University's 19th Annual Student Art Exhibit, to be held in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery on Feb. 28 to March 12.

Smith is a native of Indianapolis, Ind. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University Herron School of Art, a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts degree in marriage and family therapy from Christian Theological Seminary. At the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Smith designed permanent and traveling exhibitions and worked in objects conservation.

Smith is a National Endowment for the Arts recipient and has served as faculty and guest lecturer at the Herron School of Art, Indianapolis Art Center, University of Illinois and Marion College.

Studies, work and teaching have provided Smith with experience and familiarity in a variety of techniques and materials that include wood, paper, fiberglass, paint, bronze and ceramics. His works are represented in a number of corporate and private collections.

Smith will select the work for the student art exhibit as well as award best of show, first place, second place, third place and special achievement recognitions.

The pieces for the exhibit were created by Huntington University students, freshmen through seniors, who are enrolled in one or more art courses. This will be the first exhibition for this particular work. All types of media will be represented.

The 19th Annual Student Art Exhibit is open to the public. The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre performances, and by appointment. For further information, contact Barb Michel, interim gallery director, at (260) 359-4172.
