Huntington to host high school math competition

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University will hold a mathematics competition for high school students from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 8. Registration is open until Oct. 3. High school teams from Indiana and Ohio will gather in Hiner Hall in the university's Science Hall to compete for the top prizes, both individually and by team. If enough teams register, the competition will be moved to the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Students begin with a 20 multiple-choice question written test, followed by a quick-response individual round. After lunch, teams will work together on one final round of questions before awards are given. Mathematica, a sponsor of the competition, will award prizes to the top three individuals and the top three teams.

Note to photographers: Photographers are welcome to come during any part of the competition. Organizers suggest the team problem-solving portion as the best time, allowing for photos of the students in groups. That part of the competition is from approximately 12:30-12:45 p.m.
