Huntington to host middle grades math competition

Note: Photographers are welcome anytime, though the best time to come would be between 12:30 and 1 p.m. when group work will take place, and awards will be given.

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University will hold its second mathematics competition for middle grades students from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 23.

Eighteen teams, comprised of 124 students, will gather in the university's Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts to compete for the top prizes, both individually and by team. Students begin with a 20 multiple-choice question written test, followed by a quick-response individual round. After lunch, teams will work together on one final round of questions before awarding the top honors to the three best teams and three best individuals.

The competition is sponsored by the Huntington University Mathematics and Computer Sciences Departments and is coordinated by sophomore Josh Fitzgerald, a math education major from New Haven, Ind., and Dr. Bobbi Buchholz, assistant professor of mathematical sciences.
