Huntington University Theatre Co. to present ‘Harvey’

Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University Theatre Company will present "Harvey" at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 5-6 and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 in the Studio Theatre of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

When Elwood P. Dowd begins to introduce his imaginary friend, "Harvey," a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, $6 for children 13 and younger, $5 for Huntington University students, and $9 for Huntington University faculty and staff. For tickets or more information, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261.

Elwood P. Dowd (Matthais Austin) introduces Harvey, an invisible rabbit, to Mrs. Chauvenet (Cassie Manshiem), at a party given by his sister, Veta Louise Simmons (Alicia Bonham), intended to help Veta (back right) and her daughter, Myrtle Mae Simmons (Cassandra Quinn), get back into society.
The production is directed by Mike Slane, assistant professor of theatre. "Harvey" was written in 1944 by Mary Chase, an American playwright and screenwriter, and it became a hit on stage and on screen.
