Huntington University to present ‘Shakesperience!’

Huntington, Ind. "Many scholars agree that the closest thing to Shakespearean productions in the modern theatre is the musical. Dr. Jack Wann, former chairman of the Theatre Department at Northwestern State University, La., has taken this idea to heart and has developed a simple concept show that fuses the musical theatre of today with the lively and robust theatre of Elizabethan England to produce Shakesperience!

Christopher Betz and Sharon Voss
Wann will lead students in developing a fully mounted production presented as the first show of the Huntington University Theatre Company's spring semester.

For Jack Wann, directing at Huntington University is coming full circle. His father, John Wann, attended Huntington University (then Huntington College) in the 1930s. Now Wann will direct "Shakesperience!" alongside his former student and Huntington University assistant professor of theatre, David Shamburger.

Show times will be 7:30 p.m. on February 16 and 17, 2006, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. on February 18, 2006. All shows will be featured in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Ticket prices are $8 for general admission, $6 for seniors and Huntington University faculty and staff, and $4 for University students.

For ticket reservations or more information, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts box office at (260) 359-4261 or log on to www.huntington.edu/mca.
