Huntington University welcomes new staff members

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University welcomed seven new staff members this fall. Barb Baker joined the Huntington University staff as the events coordinator and advancement secretary for the Office of Advancement. Baker has an Associate of Arts degree from Ball State University and worked for 20 years at Insurance Services (now BSB Insurance Services) in Huntington. She is married to Rick, and they attend Faith Chapel United Methodist Church in Goblesville.
Roger Ferguson is new head coach of the Huntington University's tennis team. He formerly served as the head men's tennis coach at Blackhawk Christian High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. Prior to that, Ferguson was an assistant women's tennis coach at both Blackhawk Christian and New Haven High Schools. He has served as a volunteer tennis instructor with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a certified instructor with the United States Professional Tennis Association. Ferguson is an Intercollegiate Tennis Association referee and a member of the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association. He also has his United States Tennis Association Sport Science certification.
Varun Kaushik joined the Technology Services team as the instructional coordinator. He is a 2006 graduate from Huntington University with a double major in business management and computer science. Kaushik previously was employed by American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services in Roanoke, Ind., but remained active at the university as a member of the alumni board of directors. As the instructional coordinator, Kaushik works with the learning management system and the portal in addition to providing support in other various areas.
Beth West accepted the position of Education Department secretary. West moved to Huntington in 1993 and has held various positions in the Huntington County Community School Corporation since 2000. For the past 15 years, she has run an accounting business out of her home.
Brenda Knipp is the graduate studies admissions and marketing coordinator. The 1974 Huntington University graduate majored in French and English and received her Master of Education degree from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in 1976. Knipp taught French and English courses at Huntington North High School for 34 years and spent a year at Taylor University Fort Wayne in the Education Department before coming to Huntington to work with the Master of Education program.
Julie Raymond joined the EXCEL Adult Degree Programs as coordinator of academic support. Previously, Raymond served at three colleges in the registrar's, academic affairs and admissions offices. She graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and is licensed to teach kindergarten through sixth grade. She has served as an administrative assistant to the director of the children's ministries and nursery directory at her home church. She is married, has four daughters, one son-in-law and one granddaughter.
Sandra Hartle accepted the position of the digital media arts assistant, a role that requires administrative and organizational skills. She is responsible for tracking, ordering, keeping records, facilitating communication, setting up meetings and supervising work-study students. She graduated from Huntington University in 1988, has been married for 21 years, and is the mother of six children and the grandmother of 14 grandchildren.
