Illustrator, professor to present at fall colloquium

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University's RichLyn Library will host Bryan Ballinger, assistant professor of digital media arts, for the fall "Focus on Excellence" colloquium. The event will be held at 8 p.m. on Nov. 13 in the Johnson Conference Room of the library. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.
Ballinger, a nationally recognized illustrator, will present "An Artistic Journey: From Child to Adult, and Back Again." A question-and-answer session will follow his lecture.
Ballinger graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in illustration. He also holds a master's degree in writing for children from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. After moving to Seattle in 1991 and doing freelance work for companies such as Nintendo Power magazine, he started working at Microsoft as an illustrator. He was lead illustrator for the first version of the award-winning Encarta CD-ROM encyclopedia as well as the Explorapedia children's encyclopedia series. Ballinger was the 3-D design lead for five years at Big Idea Productions, the producers of the "VeggieTales" children's videos. Ballinger does illustration for children's books, Web sites, games, videos and advertisements. He also is the co-author of "The Great Cheese Squeeze," a children's book he created with his friend Keith Lango.
Huntington University began the Focus on Excellence colloquiums in 1998. Presenters have included everyone from authors to a Civil War reenactment/singing group.
