Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi inducts 18 new members

Huntington, Ind. "The Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society will induct 18 new members into the organization on Friday, October 5, at 11 a.m. A special convocation chapel will be held at the Merillat Centre of the Arts and kicks off the 2001 Huntington College Homecoming. Alpha Chi is a national honor society for undergraduate juniors and seniors in all academic disciplines. In 1997, it celebrated 75 years of activity at its Philadelphia national convention. Its objectives are the stimulation, development, and recognition of scholarship and those elements of character that make scholarship effective for good.
The Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society was established in 1967. It is active in the regional and national activities of Alpha Chi and was chosen this spring as the 2001 National Chapter of the Year. It has also been a Star Chapter of Alpha Chi every year since the Star Chapter award was inaugurated.
This year's inductees include: Lily Joemma Anderson, an elementary education major from Virginia Beach, Va.; Erinn Elizabeth Caley, a social studies education major from Byron Center, Mich.; Melissa Rene Cole, a choral music education major from Rochester, Ind.; Benjamin Rhoads Crill, a computer science major from Westerville, Ohio, Ben Eggleston, a mathematics major from Elkhart, Ind.; Joshua A. Garvey, a business management major from Homer, Ark.; Andrea Nicole Heffelfinger, a psychology major from Huntington, Ind.; Erika D. Helm, an elementary education major from Waynesboro, Pa.; Jennifer Lee Herring, an oral communication and educational ministries double major from Caledonia, Mich.; Lauren Hines, a psychology and oral communication double major from Wauconda, Ill.; Kara Lynn Kauffman, a psychology major from Ashland, Ohio; Scott Maddock, a business management/economic major from Ypsilanti, Mich.; Jonathan L. Ringger, a business management major from Decatur, Ind.; Rachel Rohrs, a math education major from Van Wert, Ohio; Rebecca Michelle Schmidt, an elementary education major from Uniondale, Ind.; Katie Laurel Smith, a music performance major from Oak Creek, Colo.; April Marie Wyne, an elementary education major from New Madison, Ohio; and Gretta Michelle Yoder, an elementary education major from Berne, Ind.
Membership in Alpha Chi is the highest academic honor at Huntington College and represents both a recognition of scholastic achievement and a commitment to promoting academic excellence on and off campus. The motto of Alpha Chi nationally is the same as that of Huntington College: You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
The 2001 officers include President Amanda Rockinson (Coal Center, Pa.), Vice President Josh Garvey, Secretary April Wyne, and Treasurer Christie Glick (Bloomfield, Mich.). The chapter sponsor is Dr. Paul E. Michelson, and the associate sponsors are Dr. Ann McPherren and Mrs. Jean T. Michelson.
