Judge Heath to head EXCEL class

Huntington, Ind. " Judge Daniel G. Heath of the Allen County Superior Court will teach an upcoming EXCEL Gateway course at Huntington College. Business Law will take place during six Monday evenings from June 7 through July 12, 2004. The Business Law course will be designed to highlight certain areas of the law and ethics that most likely affect or influence work-related responsibilities. Each evening class will focus on some aspect of the legal and regulatory environment confronting business relationships and organizations, such as tort, contract, employment and business formation law.
At the completion of the course, students will understand legal and ethical dilemmas faced by business organizations, limits placed on businesses by the U.S. and Indiana Constitutions, common law in the American system of justice, the court system in the federal and state context, and administrative law and the historical development of agency law as it relates to the American business community. Students will understand the law of contracts, how the Uniform Commercial Code relates to the rapid movement of goods in commerce, the role of employment law relative to managerial responsibilities in the workplace, and the role of tort law as it relates to potential liability for the business entity. The course will also cover potential liability pitfalls of antitrust law, how one is shielded from personal liability and the developing role of international law as it relates to the business entity.
Judge Heath is one of four Civil Court Judges in Allen County presiding over cases involving torts, breach of contract, small claims, appeals from county and state agency determinations, appeals from city and county ordinances on the basis of constitutional challenges, probate estates, guardianships, mental health commitments and more.
Previously, Judge Heath served with Heath & Harmeyer, Attorneys at Law; Dan Heath, Attorney at Law; Helmke, Beams, Boyer & Wagner; and Hunt Suedhoff, Borror & Eilbacher. He also served in political campaign management through Dan Coats for Congress and Helmke for Mayor. In the Helmke administration, Heath served as Chief of Staff and then as Director of Public Safety for the City of Fort Wayne.
Heath has also served as Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Administrative Assistant to Lt. Governor John M. Mutz, Bailiff and Law Clerk for Judge Patricia Gifford, and Loan Officer and Manager for Lincoln National Bank.
Judge Heath earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University " Bloomington in 1975. In 1984, he received the Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. Heath is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and has taught at Indiana Wesleyan University, Concordia University, University of St. Francis, IPFW and Indiana Institute of Technology.
